Ziziphus oenopolia (L.) Mill.

  • Distribution: Tropical Asia and Australia. Throughout the hotter parts of India
  • Description: Scandent shrubs, stem armed, arms recurved. Leaves simple, ovate, base oblique, apex acuminate. Flowers greenish-yellow, shortly pedicelled. Drupe 6 x 6 mm, globose, black.
  • Habit: Shrub
  • Habitat: Moist deciduous and semievergreen forests, also in the plains
  • Flowering & Fruiting: November-March

  • Properties & Uses: Roots are astringent, bitter, anthelmintic, digestive and antiseptic. Roots are used to treat hyperacidity, stomachalgia and healing of wounds.
