Distribution: Tropical Asia and Australia. Throughout the hotter parts of India
Description: Scandent shrubs, stem armed, arms recurved. Leaves simple, ovate, base oblique, apex acuminate. Flowers greenish-yellow, shortly pedicelled. Drupe 6 x 6 mm, globose, black.
Habit: Shrub
Habitat: Moist deciduous and semievergreen forests, also in the plains
Flowering & Fruiting: November-March

Properties & Uses: Roots are astringent, bitter, anthelmintic, digestive and antiseptic. Roots are used to treat hyperacidity, stomachalgia and healing of wounds.
