Tinospora sinensis (Lour.) Merr.

  • Distribution: India to Indo-China
  • Description: Woody climbers. Leaves broadly ovate, apex acuminate. Male flowers pedicelled. Petals in female flowers similar to male flowers. Carpels 3, stigma bilobed, staminodes 6, clavate. Drupes ovoid, red, glabrous.
  • Habit: Climbers/Lianas
  • Habitat: Evergreen and moist deciduous forests, also in sacred groves in the plains
  • Flowering & Fruiting: February-June

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Stomachic and tonic. Stem is used to treat fever, jaundice, burning sensation, diabetes, piles, skin ailments, neurological diseases and urinary diseases. Leaf juice mixed with honey is used to treat gonorrhea. Whole plant is used to treat piles, ulcerated wounds and liver disorders. Fresh leaves and stem are used to treat chronic rheumatism.
