Stereospermum colais (Buch.-Ham. ex Dillwyn) Mabb.

  • Distribution: Indo-China and Malesia
  • Description: Large trees. Leaves compound, imparipinnate, opposite, estipulate. Flowers bisexual, yellow veined with red, in terminal drooping panicles. Capsule subtetragonus, tapering at apex and base, epicarp thin, spirally splitting; seeds long, wings obtuse at both ends.

  • Parts used: Root, bark, leaves, flower and seeds
  • Properties & Uses: Anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anti-rheumatic and expectorant. The root is used for the treatment of muscular pain, rheumatism, vomiting, asthma and fever. The flowers rubbed up with honey are given to check hiccough. The decoction of the leaves is used for treating chronic dyspepsia. The flowers and fruit are used to relieve scorpion stings.
