  • Distribution: Indo-Malesia, Australia and Africa
  • Description: Diffuse aromatic herbs; stem with toothed wings. Leaves alternate, oblanceolate, obtuse at apex, spinulose serrate. Heads in globose spikes, numerous, densely packed, peduncles winged. Flowers purple. Achenes angular, glabrous; pappus absent.

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Cooling, anti-pyretic, blood purifier and anthelmintic. Whole plant is used to treat jaundice, worm infestations, diseases of the spleen, piles, blood purification, fever, cough, diarrhoea, indigestion and skin affections. The juice of the crushed plant is styptic and used for liver and gastric disorders.
