  • Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Bangladesh, tropical Africa and Myanmar
  • Description: Succulent herbs. Leaves basal, sessile, fleshy. Racemes long; flowers 3-5 in a cluster, white or pale green. Berry globose.

  • Habitat: Deciduous forests, also grown in garden

  • Properties & Uses: Rhizome used in cough. Juices of tender shoots are given to children for cleaning the phlegm from the throat. Roots are used for constipation, piles, asthma, cough, snakebite, leprosy, tuberculosis, rheumatism and fever.
