  • Distribution: India, Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Shrubs. Leaves broadly elliptic-ovate or obovate. Inflorescence elongate, terminal cymose panicles. Flower blue. Drupe 4-lobed, subglobose; seeds 2-4, globose.
  • Habit: Shrub
  • Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains
  • Flowering & Fruiting: August-December

  • Parts used: Root, leaves and seed
  • Properties & Uses: Roots are pungent, bitter stomachic and anthelmintic. Roots are used for the treatment of asthma, fever, rheumatism, inflammations, burning sensations, hiccough, epilepsy, wounds and diseases of blood. Leaves are useful in fever, burning sensation and hiccough. Seeds bruised and boiled in butter milk are used as aperient in dropsy.
