  • Distribution: Indo-Malesia
  • Description: Large shrub to small trees. Leaves simple, opposite, estipulate. Flowers bisexual, greenish-white, in terminal corymbose panicled cymes. Fruit a drupe; seeds oblong.
  • Habit: Shrub
  • Habitat: Moist sandy soil along seacoasts and mangrove forests

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Root is bitter, pungent, laxative, stomachic, alexipharmic and tonic. Root is used for the treatment of anemia, diabetes, inflammations, swellings, bronchitis, dyspepsia, constipation, fever and liver complains. Leaves are stomachic and carminative. It is used to treat piles, tumours, flatulence, cols and fever. Whole plant is used to treat rheumatism and neuralgia.
