Pothos scandens L.

  • Distribution: India to Malesia and Madagascar
  • Description: Epiphytic climber, stem angled. Leaf lanceolate, apex acuminate, glabrous; petiole broadly winged, wing broaden above. Inflorescence axillary; spathe 5 mm across, orbicular, obtuse, brown; spadix globose. Flowers densely packed; bracts 3-5, orbicular; stamens 6, free; ovary obovoid, stigma 3-toothed.

  • Habitat: Evergreen forests, semi-evergreen forests and sacred groves

  • Properties & Uses: The bruised root, fried in oil is used to heal abscesses. leaves used as a bath for curing convulsions and epilepsy. The powdered leaves are applied to the body as cure for smallpox. The whole plant is used in burning sensation, asthma, skin diseases and swellings.
