  • Vernacular names: Kachappatta, Analivegam, കച്ചപ്പട്ട, അണലിവേഗം (Malayalam), Vishadhani (Sanskrit), Sunari,Suneri (Tamil)
  • Distribution: South India and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Large shrubs. Leaves pseudo-verticillate towards the branch tips, elliptic, acute at either ends. Flowers creamy-white, in terminal sessile umbels, pedicels 5 mm long. Capsule globose, smooth, black.
  • Habit: Shrub
  • Habitat: Evergreen, shola and moist deciduous forests

  • Properties & Uses: Leaves shows antimicrobial activity and its stem bark has narcotic property. It is used for treating chronic bronchitis and as an antidote for snake poisoning. Root bark is a remedy for rheumatic swelling.
