Description: Straggling shrubs. Leaves ovate, acute at apex, cordate and strongly oblique at base, 7-nerved. Female spike stout, erect; Male spike to 7 cm long, erect, slender. Berry glabrous, black or deep red.

Properties & Uses: Root and fruits are used to treat dysentery and leucoderma, bladder obstruction, muscular pains and inflammations. Decoction of dried immature fruits and roots or the powdered fruits mixed with honey is used to treat chronic bronchitis, cough and cold. An infusion of fruits is used to treat women after child birth to check bleeding and fever.
