  • Distribution: India and Malesia
  • Description: Epiphytic climbing shrubs. Leaves ovate, rounded or shallowly cordate and slightly asymmetrical at the base. Spike thick at anthesis, unevenly nodose in fruit. Flowers yellowish, crowded, dioecious. Berries very rarely produced.

  • Properties & Uses: Leaves are carminative, stomachic, tonic, stimulant, astringent and antiseptic; used to cure indigestion, colic, diarrhea, pulmonary catarrh, laryngitis, headache and cough. Leaf stalks dipped in mustard oil is applied as suppository for rectal evacuation in infants. Fruit with honey is a remedy for cough. Root is reported to develop permanent sterility in women.
