Distribution: Throughout the tropics
Description: Medium trees. Leaves simple, alternate. Flowers unisexual, greenish-yellow, densely clustered in leaf axils. Fruit a capsule, sub globose, dehiscing into 6 cocci, disc enlarged, fleshy, yellowish-green, indehiscent berry.

Properties & Uses: Rejuvenative, diuretic, anti-pyretic, digestive and carminative. The bark is used for the treatment of jaundice, gonorrhea, diarrhea and myalgia. The leaves are used in inflammation, conjunctivitis, diarrhea and dysentery. The fruits are used in cough, asthma, bronchitis, constipation, peptic ulcer, diarrhea, dysentery, cardiac disorders, diabetes, eye diseases, tuberculosis and general debility.
