Myristica malabarica Lam.

  • Vernacular names: Chorapali, Pathri, ചോരപാലി, പത്തിരി (Malayalam), Malabar nutmeg (English), Jatiphala (Sanskrit), Katjathika (Tamil)
  • Distribution: Endemic to Western Ghats
  • Description: Large dioecious trees. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous, estipulate. Flowers unisexual, white; male in cymes, axillary or from the old axils below the leaves, generally cymosely branched, rarely simple. Male flowers numerous, umbel at the apex of branchlets; female flowers slightly larger than male peduncle generally simple with 3 umbel pedicels at the apex. Fruit a capsule, oblong, seed one, aril yellow, irregularly lobed, laciniate, extending to the apex of the seed.
