Myristica beddomei King

  • Family: Myristicaceae
  • Vernacular names: Kattujathi, Pathiripoovu, കാട്ടുജാതി, പത്തിരി പൂവ് (Malayalam), Wild Nutmeg (English), Kattu jathika (Tamil)
  • Distribution: South India and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Large trees. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous, estipulate. Flowers unisexual, white; male flowers 10-20 together in short axillary dense clusters; female flowers as in male, only few generally 3-4 in the heads. Fruit a capsule, ovoid, apiculate, grooved on one side along the suture, seed one, ovoid; aril orange red, encircling the seed.
