  • Distribution: Indo-Malesia, China and Australia
  • Description: Shrubs to small trees. Leaves obovate to sub orbicular. Flowers red, turning pale blue, axillary, solitary or in few-flowered cymes. Follicles spirally twisted, stellate-tomentose; seeds, angular, black, wrinkled.

  • Parts used: Root, bark and fruits
  • Properties & Uses: Root and stem bark is demulcent, astringent and expectorant. Root juice is used to treat empyema, stomach disorders, diabetes, snake bite, dog bite and rabies. Bark is used to treat diarrhea, dysentery and biliousness. Dried fruit is demulcent and astringent and it is used to treat intestinal ailments, colic, flatulence, diarrhea and dysentery.
