Description: Evergreen trees. Leaves simple, opposite, decussate, estipulate. Flowers polygamo-dioecious, yellowish-white, flowers in axillary fascicles, female larger than male flowers. Fruit a berry, yellow or red, pericarp very thick, fleshy; seeds 6-8, ovoid, compressed, pale brown, veined; aril succulent, white or red.

Properties & Uses: Anthelmintic and cardiotonic. The fruit is used for the treatment of piles, dysentery, tumours, pains and cardiac ailments. Seed oil is used for ointments and other pharmaceutical purposes, it is also useful for healing chapped or cracked lips, hands and feet.
