Description: Scapigerous herbs; whole plant scabrous. Leaves radical, obovate to oblong or oblanceolate; cauline leaves small, narrow, sessile, base amplexicaule. Heads homogamous, non-rayed, sessile, aggregated. Flowers bisexual, purple. Achenes 10-ribbed; pappus of 4-6 spiny bristles.

Properties & Uses: Anti-pyretic and diuretic. The decoction of the root and leaves are given in intermittent fever, diarrhea and bronchitis. The flowers are recommended for ophthalmopathy, bronchitis, cough and swelling. The plant is also used for the treatment of piles.
