Distribution: Tropical and warm temperate regions
Description: Creeping herbs. Leaves linear-lanceolate, acuminate, sheaths keeled; ligules fimbriate, membranous. Inflorescence of terminal, digitate 3-4 spikes. Flower purplish-green. Caryopsis ca. 1 mm, linear.
Habit: Herb
Habitat: Along banks of backwaters, bunds of paddy fields, wastelands
Flowering & Fruiting: March-October

Properties & Uses: Plant is sweet, cooling, depurative, diuretic and tonic. Whole plant is used for the treatment of hyperdipsia, wounds, haemorrhoides, conjunctivitis, skin diseases, vomiting, diarrhoea, dysentery, abortion and general debility.

Traditional Uses:Fresh leaves crushed and the juice is applied on fresh cuts and wounds to stop bleeding.
