  • Vernacular names: Karukapullu, കറുകപ്പുല്ല് (Malayalam), Bermuda grass (English), Neeladurva (Sanskrit), Muyalpul (Tamil)
  • Distribution: Tropical and warm temperate regions
  • Description: Creeping herbs. Leaves linear-lanceolate, acuminate, sheaths keeled; ligules fimbriate, membranous. Inflorescence of terminal, digitate 3-4 spikes. Flower purplish-green. Caryopsis ca. 1 mm, linear.

  • Habitat: Along banks of backwaters, bunds of paddy fields, wastelands
  • Flowering & Fruiting: March-October

  • Properties & Uses: Plant is sweet, cooling, depurative, diuretic and tonic. Whole plant is used for the treatment of hyperdipsia, wounds, haemorrhoides, conjunctivitis, skin diseases, vomiting, diarrhoea, dysentery, abortion and general debility.
