Distribution: India and South East Asia
Description: Herbs. Leaves linear, rounded at base, flat. Inflorescence a large complex greyish panicle. Racemes paired, with a spatheole beneath. Spikelets binate, one sessile, other pedicelled. Flower greenish-yellow. Caryopsis elliptic.

Habitat: Deciduous forests and grasslands, also in the plains

Properties & Uses: Carminative, germicide, antifungal and insect repellent. Oil extracted from the plant is used for the treatment of skin diseases, muscular pain, cough and cold. It also used as an insect repellant.
