Description: Small palms, terminal crown of large pinnately compound leaves; dioecious. Microsporophylls densely aggregated to form large terminal cones. Megasporophylls loosely arranged, crowded round the apex of stem; ovules 1-5 on either side of sporophyll; seeds globose.

Properties & Uses: The paste of bark and seed with coconut oil is good for sores and swellings. Juice obtained from tender leaves is useful in vomiting. The powdered endosperm is used for the treatment of burning sensation and general debility.
