Distribution: Cultivated and naturalised in Indo-Malaya
Description: Rhizomatous herbs. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, clouded with purple along the midrib. Flowers in compact, oblong spike; flowers yellow.
Habit: Herb
Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains
Flowering & Fruiting: April-July

Properties & Uses: Rhizome is carminative, appetizer, anthelmintic and blood purifier; externally applied to bruises and sprains and to promote eruptions of small-pox. Rhizome paste is applied to forehead in headache. Essential oil from rhizome is anthelmintic and antimicrobial.
