  • Distribution: Peninsular India and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Climbing shrubs. Leaves elliptic or oblong-lanceolate. Inflorescence axillary dichotomous cymes, shorter than leaves. Flowers greenish-white, 5-merous, lax. Follicles 2, woody; seeds flat, with silky coma.

  • Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains

  • Properties & Uses: Plant decoction is given in syphilis. Stem used in arthritis. Crushed root mixed with milk are used in venereal diseases. Roots are used for the treatment of snake bite and stomach pain. Root paste is used in joint pains and rheumatic arthritis. Roots and fruits are used in edema, cholera, dropsy and dysentery. Latex used for healing septic wounds, boils and scabies.
