- Description: Small trees. Leaves simple, alternate, spiral, turning red before falling. Flowers unisexual, pale yellowish-green, the males in the upper part of the raceme, the females in the lower part. Fruit a capsule, subglobose, depressed, slightly 3-lobed, lepidote scaly; seeds 3.

- Properties & Uses: The paste of bark, root and fruits are used in snake bite, insects bite and dog bite. Bark used in external application for sprains, inflammations, rheumatism and fever. Root used in rheumatism, headache and dysentery. The boiled leaves, combined with ginger are used to make a bath for women after giving birth. The boiled leaves are also used as a vapour bath to aid recovery from fevers
