Distribution: Widely cultivated in Peninsular India and Sri Lanka
Description: Monocarpic tall palms; stem solitary, dark grey with distinct leaf scars. Leaves costapalmate, margins with well-defined teeth. Inflorescence terminal. Flowers greenish yellow, bisexual, arranged in clusters of 3-6 flowers. Fruit globose. Seeds smooth and very hard.
