Clinacanthus nutans (Burm.f.) Lindau

  • Distribution: South East Asia
  • Description: Shrubs; stem terete, striate, glabrescent. Leaves opposite, lanceolate-ovate, lanceolate, or linear-lanceolate, Racemes 1 to several at or near shoot apex, usually 3 to several forming a terminal panicle. Flowers dull red with a green base, Capsule, pilose.

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Antioxidant and anti-poisonous. Roots contain betulin, pentacyclic triterpenoid compounds. Betulin ingredient has good effect on nasopharyngeal cancer. The whole plant is also used for the treatment of sore throat, snake bites, insect stings, dysentery, nettle rash, kidney diseases and skin problems.
