  • Distribution: South West India and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Small trees. Bark brown, rough, cracks vertical. Leaves simple, opposite or subopposite. Flowers pale yellow, bisexual, in terminal and axillary panicles. Fruit a berry.

  • Habitat: Cultivated
  • Flowering & Fruiting: March-April

  • Parts used: Bark and leaf oil
  • Properties & Uses: Aromatic, stimulant, expectorant and carminative. Bark is used for the treatment of gastric irritation, paralysis, bronchitis, dysentery, asthma, diarrhea, cardiac diseases, gonorrhea, dental and skin diseases. Leaf oil is used to treat neuralgia, headache, rheumatism and toothache. The decoction of bark is used to treat stomach, rectum and uterus cancer.
