Cardiospermum halicacabum L.

  • Distribution: Pantropical
  • Description: Climbing herbs. Leaves alternate, bi-ternate; leaflets ovate-lanceolate, deeply dentate or lobed. Flowers white, polygamous in 3-7-flowered. Fruit a capsule, 3-lobed, winged; seeds one in each chamber.
  • Habit: Climbers/Lianas
  • Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in scrub jungles

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Sedative, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, analgesic, stimulant, emetic, diuretic, diaphoretic and laxative. Whole plant is used for the treatment of rheumatism, nervous disorders, piles, chronic bronchitis, fever, sprains, jaundice, swellings, dandruff and alopecia. Leaves are used to treat wounds, piles and general sores.
