  • Distribution: Peninsular India and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Small trees. Leaves simple, opposite, estipulate. Flowers bisexual, pinkish-purple, in axillary corymbose cymes. Fruit a drupe, globose; seeds 3-4, oblong, angular.
  • Habit: Tree
  • Habitat: Semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests, also in the plains

  • Properties & Uses: Leaves are antiseptic and its extract is used to treat wounds, boils and itches. Leaves boiled in milk and it is used to treat aphthae. Roots are used to treat skin affections. Bark decoction and roots are used to treat fever, hepatic obstructions and skin diseases. Flowers and fruits are used to treat epilepsy, diseases of nervous system, oedema, cardiac diseases and dysuria.
