  • Description: Aquatic herbs. Leaves ovate-oblong or spathulate. Flowers bluish-white, solitary, axillary. Capsule ovoid or oblong, enclosed in calyx; seeds oblong, reticulate.

  • Habitat: In the plains and mangrove forests

  • Parts used: Whole plant
  • Properties & Uses: Astringent, diuretic, laxative and tonic. Whole plant is used to improve memory and intelligence. It is also used for the treatment of anemia, diabetes, cough, dropsy, fever, asthma, epilepsy, dropsy, arthritis and dyspepsia. Leaf juice is used to treat diarrhea and bronchitis in children and the leaf past in arthritis. Boiled leaves applied in postnatal pains.
