  • Vernacular names: Karimuthukku, Muthukku, Kumbi, കരിമുതക്ക്, മുതക്ക് (Malayalam), Vidari (Sanskrit),
  • Distribution: Western Ghats and Sri Lanka
  • Description: Climbing shrubs. Leaves palmately 3-5-lobed, oblong, membranous. Flowers greenish-yellow, in axillary cymes. Capsule globose, 3-valved.
  • Habit: Climbers/Lianas
  • Habitat: Semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests
  • Flowering & Fruiting: March-August

  • Parts used: Tubers
  • Properties & Uses: Promote breast milk, improve voice and complexion. Used in urinary disorders, asthma, fever, rheumatism, burning sensation and general debility.
  • Systems of Medicines: Ayurveda, Folk, Unani,
  • Traditional Uses:The leaf juice is boiled with coconut oil and applied on painful joints. It is also used in skin diseases.
